Resin, Reborn and Reprinted
This 3D printing resin has an "undo" button.

Heidelberg University researchers developed a 3D printing resin that a chemical trigger can break down into its molecular building blocks within seconds at room temperature, allowing the material to be remade into polymer and reused. The recycled material retained the original’s molecular composition and properties, pointing to a possible future where your high-resolution resin prints could be recycled into new printable material instead of discarded.

Good Vibrations
Tiny 3D printed robots take flight on sound alone.

Forget batteries and motors: researchers at the MicroBioRobotic Systems lab at France's EPFL 3D printed tiny robots that fly on sound. Each microflier contains tiny air-filled cavities that work a bit like a bottle when you blow across its opening: hit it with the right frequency the trapped air starts vibrating strongly enough to thrust the robots airborne and enable researchers to steer them remotely. The robots were resin 3D printed using two-photon polymerization tech on a Nanoscribe Photonic Professional GT+.

Why Certifying 3D Printing Operators Could Be the Key to Reliable Mass Production

Machines have gotten better. Operators haven't kept pace, and in aerospace and defense supply chains, that gap is starting to matter.

Print Farm at Sea
1,000 parts and 12-foot waves made for one very unusual print job.

Military-focused drone manufacturer Firestorm says its xCell microfactory kept several HP MJF 3D printers busy aboard the USS Essex, producing more than 1,000 parts, including components for 12 Squall FPV drones, in waves reaching 12 feet on the way to RIMPAC, the multinational military exercise in Hawaii. Service members assembled the drones en route and later flew them in a counter-UAS exercise.
