Print Farm at Sea
1,000 parts and 12-foot waves made for one very unusual print job.

Military-focused drone manufacturer Firestorm says its xCell microfactory kept several HP MJF 3D printers busy aboard the USS Essex, producing more than 1,000 parts, including components for 12 Squall FPV drones, in waves reaching 12 feet on the way to RIMPAC, the multinational military exercise in Hawaii. Service members assembled the drones en route and later flew them in a counter-UAS exercise.

Weekend Poll
How many of you have tried an online 3D printing service?

It's easy for us on the consumer content side of All3DP to view 3D printing through a personal I'll-do-it-myself kind of lens, but the truth is there are distinct advantages to outsourcing some print jobs to a service. The two that spring to mind are material choice (good luck printing steel at home) and confidence trusting the result print. Have you used one?

Das Auto
"Built to move like the real thing,"

MakerWorld user Auxcron's incredible 1:2.5 scale reconstruction of the Volkswagen 1.9 TDI engine is a sight to behold. Totalling some 300+ components requiring more than 50 hours of total printing time, the result is a fully animated monument to great fuel economy.

The files aren't publicly available – yet. Auxcron is preparing to launch the project as a crowdfunding campaign on MakerWorld, with the proceeds providing funds and time to improve the fit and finish of the parts, author the build guide and BOM, and generally give it the polish it deserves before releasing the files.
