In response to challenges in 3D printing aerospace components

students at ETH Zurich have developed an exciting laser powder bed fusion machine that follows a circular tool path to print round components. Two different metals can be processed simultaneously, and the system could open new doors in aerospace and industry needing cylindrical or ring shaped prints. Check out this video to see the printer dubbed "Rapture" in operation.

IFA Berlin also gave us a sneak peek of Makera’s next product.

Launching on Kickstarter soon, the Makera Z1 is pitched as a more compact and affordable entry-level version of the company's Carvera and Carvera Air hardware. Expect a sub $1,000 price tag and lighter construction that makes smart substitutions in the construction with minimal compromise on the performance. A prototype Z1 is pictured here alongside the company's new Cyclone Dust Collector (launching soon) which can suck up chips as they're made and is said to virtually eliminate clogs or the need for clean-up pauses while machining.

Creative tech giant xTool has a surprise debut at IFA with the F2 Ultra UV,

an unusual new laser engraver tailor-made to engrave designs inside clear glass and plastics, as well marking on sensitive materials without the potential mess or emissions. It sounds niche, but its unique ability to engrave in 3D and "cold" processing are likely to be an attractive combo for makers concerned about cleaner processing and wider material possibilities. It launches later this year.

Elegoo’s Jupiter 2 has its European debut.

The upcoming large resin printer features an asymmetric double doors, self-regulating easy-release heated resin vat, and real-time monitoring via camera. It's a dramatic refinement on the original Jupiter which was a bit rough around the edges. Unlike that printer, which launched via Kickstarter, the Jupiter 2 will launch directly with Elegoo later this year.

IFA Berlin also saw Creality’s launch of the Nexbie 3D printed product platform.

Debuting in Germany, there's only a functioning German storefront available for now with 3D printed shoes as its first product. The designs, 3D printed from TPU photopolymer, are available in a handful of colors and styles and mark the company's first lifestyle product. A U.S. storefront is also online, with a variety of "sold out" printed products and a banner calling for creators to reach out to collab.
