Good Vibrations
Tiny 3D printed robots take flight on sound alone.

Forget batteries and motors: researchers at the MicroBioRobotic Systems lab at France's EPFL 3D printed tiny robots that fly on sound. Each microflier contains tiny air-filled cavities that work a bit like a bottle when you blow across its opening: hit it with the right frequency the trapped air starts vibrating strongly enough to thrust the robots airborne and enable researchers to steer them remotely. The robots were resin 3D printed using two-photon polymerization tech on a Nanoscribe Photonic Professional GT+.

Beam Me Up, Bambu
Bambu Lab is finally letting its laser loose.

The company is teasing the R1, its first standalone laser cutter and engraver. Lasers are already a part of its multi-function machines, but apparently the beam has now earned its own apartment. Details are scarce: full specs are due in late August and pre-orders open in September. Bambu says the R1 applies the same philosophy behind its 3D printers to laser cutting and engraving: less fiddling, more making.

That's a Lot of Cheese
Sovol's IDEX-toolchanger M1D 3D printer hit a milestone fairly quickly yesterday.

In an update on its campaign page, the company celebrated netting $2-million in pledges over the 130-minute window immediately following its launch. Things have slowed since then – 24 hours later and the total currently sits just north of $2.8-million. Putting things into perspective, the Snapmaker U1 netted $7-million in the same timeframe.
