Onshape has an AI-powered assistant now.

It's called AI Advisor and, functioning like other prompt-based tools, it answers your CAD/CAM and general design-related questions using PTC's accumulated knowledge of design best practices, plus the technical documentation for Onshape itself.

It can't design your models for you, though. PTC explains in a "What's New" video posted to YouTube that AI Advisor cannot access your data, meaning your discussions with it are securely abstracted from the part you are working on.

Ti-ck Tock
3D printed products are commonplace nowadays, but every now and then we spot one that's special.

Watchmaker Ming partnered with Sisma S.p.A and ProMotion SA to develop and print Polymesh, the brand's mesmerizing new watch strap. It's fashioned from 1,693 links and components sintered from grade 5 titanium, resulting in a strap that fastens with a traditional buckle but, Ming says, flows like fabric. The company sells the strap individually  – no watch included – for 1,500 CHF (about $1,850) excluding taxes. A stainless steel variant is in development, too.

Ex-cellent-change
Sometimes, the boring business details translate to a result in your shopping basket.

Swedish extrusion specialist Bondtech recently updated its pricing policy, ditching fixed pricing in favor of flexible pricing that tracks the exchange rate daily. Customers across the EU, plus the UK, Switzerland, and Norway now benefit from pricing that tracks more favorably against the dollar.

For example, EU pricing is currently around 15% lower than it was before the change, with $1 USD buying ~€0.85 EUR. This new system means prices will fluctuate with each currency's value but, as the company explains, is fairer.

Weekend Poll
What matters most when you're buying filament to print?

It's a simple question, but one that's been rattling around my mind this week after 3D Fuel permanently lowered the prices of some of its most popular filaments, and Polymaker slashed prices by 35% sitewide for its Restock Day sale. Cost gets the most attention, but does anything top that for you? What matters the most?

E3D has dropped another new hot end for the Bambu Lab A-series machines.

Following last week's release of the tough, non-stick ObXidian drop-in replacements for the A1 and A1 Mini machines, there's now the Diamondback. Fashioned from uber-hard lab-made diamond, the E3D DiamondBack hot end for A1/A1 Mini is a simple switch that offers top abrasion resistance. The obvious appeal of a nozzle like this is printing abrasive filaments, but the idea of never having to buy a nozzle again because it'll outlive the printer is also appealing.

A Fine Pair
Something new from Nike, maybe, and Adidas plays it cool this week in 3D printed shoes.

As reported on footwear trendspotting site Sole Retriever, Nike appears to have accidentally posted a new purple color Air Max 1000 on Zellerfeld, before taking them down again. Thought to release later this year, they'd join black as the second color of the high-profile 3D printed footwear release. Also on Sole Retriever, there's an update on Adidas' Climacool fully 3D printed slip-on sneakers, which are coming soon in a cool Grey Four variant in grey with contrasting black Adidas stripes.

The maker movement just got a corporate parent.

Tech giant Qualcomm just scooped up open-source darling Arduino, the maker community’s favorite tinkering toolkit turned global phenomenon. The newly united duo promises to fuse Qualcomm’s AI horsepower with Arduino’s open-source spirit starting with the new $44 Arduino UNO Q, landing this month with a Dragonwing “dual-brain” processor. Qualcomm says it’s about democratizing AI; Arduino swears it’s still all about accessibility. Whether this partnership sparks the next wave of intelligent DIY innovation or shifts focuses on corporate IT remains to be seen.
