PLAying Safe
Raising standards in the name of safety is something to be celebrated.

UK-based Filamentive has announced that its PLA and PLA Matte filaments are now EN 71-3 + A2:2024 compliant, certifying them safe regarding the leaching of regulated elements should they be ingested or come into contact with children.

The news also serves as a reminder that the devil is in the detail with such things. The raw material is certified safe, but prints from it (which introduce the variables of specific printing parameters, environment, geometry, etc.) aren't, unless independently tested. As a starting point though, hats off to them.

Here, There, and Everywhere
Overture has just launched webshops in the UK, Germany, France, and Spain,

aiming to provide a "smoother purchasing experience". This allows the American filament manufacturer to offer faster regional shipping without import fees, plus clear pricing in local currencies.

To celebrate, Overture is sharing a 15% off storewide plus free shipping, with the promotion running through March 31. Use the code "HELLOEU" at checkout to take advantage.

The company highlights that customers from other EU countries – namely Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, and Poland – can continue using the brand's official Amazon stores.

AI-Generated 3D Models Are Here – And Only One Platform Has Banned Them

MyMiniFactory’s acquisition of Thingiverse assumes a wave of anti-AI sentiment. But are plans to ban or block “AI” content justified, or even possible? I asked the folks who run some of the web’s biggest 3D printing repositories to find out.

It's Settled
Pop Mart's beef with Bambu Lab appears to be over.

Following our report from a fortnight ago, Chinese media and an official Weibo statement from Bambu Lab confirm a settlement has been reached after "friendly consultations." No specifics have been disclosed, though the agreement sees off the April 2 court date set out in the lawsuit.

The dispute began when Pop Mart sued Bambu Lab and MakerWorld for IP infringement regarding unauthorized Labubu 3D models. Bambu Lab has apologized for the "distress" caused and confirmed what we already knew – that it has removed all relevant content from its platform.

So, Creality is launching a filament recycler soon.

Repeatedly remelting and reforming thermoplastics isn't a great idea if you plan to use those parts in real-world jobs subjected to stress – but there's a place for it. Creality paints a mixed picture of scrap recycling and experimentation with custom recipes. But what would you use the system for, if you had one?

I was planning to change the subject and explore something new,

but after printing with virtual filament colors this week, I just can't help myself. Let's keep the conversation going. Last week, some 70% of you who print in color indicated you do so using single-nozzle and toolchanging systems. This suggests that native multicolor printing hardware is the dominant way to create color prints these days.

So we know how. Now tell me why. Why are you adding color to what you print?
