I Light for the Users
Well now here's a novelty.

Redditor FlounderLegitimate's macro thermal camera has captured some fascinating footage of a print in progress. The hot end dips in and out of focus like a star, while the trail of freshly extruded plastic gradually fades. Areas with full infill concentrate the heat, glowing for longer.

It's a satisfying watch: one to file alongside other things we've covered over the years like macro photography of prints and printer parts, and telescopic nozzle cams. Is there a function or purpose to recording a print like this? No. Could I watch it on a loop for a long time? Yes.

Prusa INDX When? Q2 Release Ticks Closer as Quick Update Vids Explain Features

A drip feed of dev videos on Prusa's YouTube channel is starting to build hype for the INDX upgrade (for us at least) though we're still waiting for confirmation when this multi-material upgrade will become available.

Good News, EUveryone
Polymaker has just launched official stores in select EU territories,

offering 20% off plus free shipping through the end of March. Great news for filament fans in Czechia, Germany, Poland, France, Spain, and the UK (UK store launching early March).

In addition to the benefit of quicker, local shipping, buying direct gives you the chance to earn savings through the company’s PolyCoins reward scheme and, crucially, save big in the Restock Day sales, which typically see up to 35% off sitewide.

The grand opening discount stacks with Polymaker's bundle builder discount (I checked) so you can potentially save 35% already if you order 10 spools or more.

Weekend Poll
There's a balance to strike, covering 3D printing today.

Many of the printers we test and talk about at All3DP are multicolor and multi-material capable, which might skew our thinking about the printers you all are using. Respecting that fact was a challenge for me this week, in my mini-tutorial for spiralized image prints – it was essential to present the path for diverse machine types. Multicolor printing may be a given in our lab, but how common is it actually?

Printing for Performance
Ford 3D printed thousands of components for its new 2027 truck design

in search of the ultimate aerodynamic vehicle. The iconic American auto maker said it 3D printed prototypes — including versions of the suspension and drive units that didn't even exist as functional prototypes yet — for wind-tunnel testing because it shortened iteration cycles compared to traditional tooling prototypes. The tech enabled extremely small geometric tweaks, sometimes just millimeters, to quickly identify improvements that reduce drag, weight, and energy consumption — key to hitting its ambitious affordability target of $30K.

Kick It Up
We're not necessarily advocates for printing shoes at home,

as shown by our recent dive into self-fabricated footwear. But if you've been bitten by that particular bug, Bambu Lab's latest color drop for its flexible TPU 90A material gives you a slick new option. Called Quicksilver, this metallic filament certainly has a mercurial (ha) quality to it. It sneakily featured in the company's recent Formism collab ahead of its release. You can pick some up from the Bambu Lab webstore.

Keep Rollin'
Necessity isn't always the mother of invention.

Sometimes, it's for the fun of it. Or because Prusa asks you to. Matt Denton, a veteran TV and film animatronics engineer, recently posted an inventive build that takes a 2 kg filament spool and turns it into remote-controllable robot, all while preserving the core functionality of being, well, a spool of filament.

It's the goofy kind of clever I can get behind. And you can, too – the full BoM and schematics can be found on GitHub, and the printable files on Printables. Denton's nearly hour-long build video is well worth a watch, too.
