They're Eeeeverywhere
Japanese sportswear brand Asics launched a fully 3D printed recovery sandal earlier this month.

In terms of looks, it's a closed-toe mule-style shoe that shows off the common lattice style that has come to define printed shoes. Contrasting Asics branding separates this $250 sandal from the rest, in my opinion. It's a style Asics has toyed with before, with various printed lattices present in some of the company's shoes since 2022  – a part of the growing story of fully 3D printed footwear.

Fixed Points
Here's some mathematical intrigue to close the week out.

Maslow, the open source large format belt-driven CNC project, has posted a fascinating development update to its blog, detailing behind-the-scenes work to simplify the Maslow4's cumbersome anchor point setup.

By reducing a messy six-dimensional calibration problem to a clean arc of possibilities, they’ve uncovered a surprising mathematical structure. It makes for pretty interesting reading; something to whittle away the last minutes of your Friday afternoon.

It's a Revolution
Tinkercad continues to evolve, with a new revolve sketch function launching this week.

With it, you can sketch out custom 2D shapes about an axis which then serves as the origin for a 360-degree revolve operation. The tool lets you create custom concentric shapes in a pinch and is yet another sophistication of the popular web app.

In 2025 alone, Tinkercad has gained a sketch workspace and object grouping, and made export behaviour more 3D print-friendly, as well as effectively removed project size limitations through scale factors. As with any design element in Tinkercad, you add a revolve sketch through the shapes library. Read more about it on the Tinkercad blog.

Onshape has an AI-powered assistant now.

It's called AI Advisor and, functioning like other prompt-based tools, it answers your CAD/CAM and general design-related questions using PTC's accumulated knowledge of design best practices, plus the technical documentation for Onshape itself.

It can't design your models for you, though. PTC explains in a "What's New" video posted to YouTube that AI Advisor cannot access your data, meaning your discussions with it are securely abstracted from the part you are working on.

Ex-cellent-change
Sometimes, the boring business details translate to a result in your shopping basket.

Swedish extrusion specialist Bondtech recently updated its pricing policy, ditching fixed pricing in favor of flexible pricing that tracks the exchange rate daily. Customers across the EU, plus the UK, Switzerland, and Norway now benefit from pricing that tracks more favorably against the dollar.

For example, EU pricing is currently around 15% lower than it was before the change, with $1 USD buying ~€0.85 EUR. This new system means prices will fluctuate with each currency's value but, as the company explains, is fairer.

Weekend Poll
What matters most when you're buying filament to print?

It's a simple question, but one that's been rattling around my mind this week after 3D Fuel permanently lowered the prices of some of its most popular filaments, and Polymaker slashed prices by 35% sitewide for its Restock Day sale. Cost gets the most attention, but does anything top that for you? What matters the most?
