XTryFun's proposed second laser-aided paint sprayer might be ideal for occasional part painting, but getting the right tool for the right job is probably preferable.
In my experience, the biggest hurdle to getting into model painting is – like most things – knowing I’m just going to suck at it for a while. But if this new Kickstarter comes through, a spray paint laser sight could help make things a little easier.
The Y02 Laser Spray Gun is about precision and getting the right distance for your spray, creator XTryFun says on its Kickstarter campaign page. Two crossing lasers would help users visually confirm they’re at the right distance to spray even layers without spraying excess paint that can result in dripping. The device would include an adjustable pressure level with three settings, and uses reusable bottles for its paint.
Pledges for the Y02 Laser Spray Gun start at $99 for the Super Early Bird tier, and the project is already funded with 82 backers at ~$10,000 of its ~$2,000 goal.
This is the second of XTryFun’s laser-assisted spray paint Kickstarters. The first, the “Laser Focus Sprayer” completed in December 2024, attached directly to spray cans. That project was funded for 822% of its goal and had pledges as low as $39.
The brand is a new name to us, and notably, we can’t spot the company’s first product available for purchase. The brand name does appear on Amazon, selling a variety of car products, including a sticker and marker remover pen and touch-up paint, but we can’t be sure it’s the same entity.

It’s advertised with a diversity of surface sizes, from cars to small 3D printed models, but having a variety of tools – like a paint sprayer and an airbrush – might do the job better than a single adjustable tool. The paint bottles certainly don’t look comparable to the higher-capacity ones on power tool paint sprayers, but the device seems clunkier than an airbrush.
But, maybe painting 3D prints really is the sweet spot for this sort of device. With an often-middling surface volume, its 50 ml bottles could be a perfectly suitable size for the work, and a laser guide could be helpful to those who only dabble in occasional model painting.
