Did you know you can pair a Joy-Con with your phone? Neither did we. Anyway, this 3D printed grip uses one for convenient retro-style gaming on your device.
We prefer highlighting models and projects you can print at home. But sometimes, something is just so… chef’s kiss, that we have to write about it anyway.
This 3D printed gaming grip for your smartphone is one such thing, combining a useful accessory you may have lying around (a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller) with a holdable, big-buttoned 3D printed grip that snugly secures the controller and snaps to your phone magnetically.
It’s the work of designer Roman Guaz, who goes by the store name Krasivoe on Etsy, where you’ll find the RetroGrip, plus a whole bunch of other Joy-Con-adjacent smartphone accessories and a sharp-looking clock.
The common theme among those designs is that they’re designed around the iPhone, which introduced the MagSafe standard with the iPhone 12. Fortunately, the RetroGrip can work with Samsung, Pixel, and, generically, Android phones, provided you’re using a MagSafe-style case (that is to say, one that adds the magnets for alignment and attachment).
It costs around $30 for now, at Etsy.
