A blog post from the Swedish company described upcoming changes to its hotly-anticipated INDX extruder toolchanging system, including it's launch in November and preorder details.
In a blog post titled “Good Things Take Time” Bondtech has provided an update on the eagerly awaited (at least by us) INDX toolchanger, detailing a significant evolution of the system and clarifying the release schedule. The initial launch date, set earlier this year for November 2025, looks on track in the sense that visitors to Formnext in Frankfurt, Germany, will get a full look at the “latest, working version” and the chance to preorders the first units. Shipping is expected to follow sometime in Q1, 2026.
The journey of the INDX system began in November 2024, but we only got our first glimpse of a working, advanced version in March 2025. While the response was enthusiastic, Bondtech determined it did not yet meet their standards for stability and precision. The company is now beta testing a 3rd generation of the device, which features a full aluminum extruder housing that offers “enhanced rigidity and repeatability”.
The post continues that there’s even a 4th-generation INDX in development, which is intended to be the final, production-ready version. This latest iteration is built upon a rugged aluminum chassis and utilizes key features such as a repeatable reference positioning system for the nozzle and automatic nozzle sensing for what Bondtech says is “perfect bed leveling”.
Around the launch, Bondtech will begin sharing “simplified geometries” for the system, too, kicking off your ability to build new designs that accurately incorporate the tools. Previous reports have estimated the cost of the smart toolhead to be around $250, with the “thin passive tools” costing approximately $35 each. You can read more on the Bondtech blog.
