Bambu Lab launched a store loyalty program in June. Called Bambu Credits, the scheme returns roughly 1% of what you spend as cash-value store credit, and can be used directly at checkout on subsequent orders.
The company’s new scheme joins a growing roster of 3D printing companies offering such store credit schemes (including the likes of E3D’s E3D Rewards and the playfully named Fella Coins from Fillamentum.)
The mechanics of Bambu Credits are pretty flat and unfussy. You earn one credit per dollar of net spend on eligible products – shipping, tax, discounts, and gift-card payments do not count. Accrue 100 credits to knock a dollar off a future order. This is automatically converted to your local store currency if you’re not in the U.S. Unlike other schemes, there’s no coupon to generate or roundabout way to generate a code to use – your credit balance is simply waiting at checkout, and can be used in addition to other coupons and gift card balances.
Here’s how that scales across a few basket sizes.
You can’t redeem until you’ve banked at least a dollar’s worth. Figures are on net product spend, before shipping and tax.
There’s a wait between buying and receiving your credits, though – approximately 14 days after your order is delivered. There are more terms to consider, too – credits can offset no more than 30% of an order’s subtotal, under an absolute ceiling of roughly 100 units of the local currency per order (say, $100 on the U.S. Bambu Lab webstore.)
There’s a mix of approaches that don’t all cleanly map to each other in terms of comparison, particularly given some, like Bambu Lab, sell printers that can reach up to thousands of dollars in value. E3D’s scheme for example, banks coins toward tiered discount codes that run from 5% up to 20% off; Fillamentum runs its own coin-based program that rewards 10 coins for every €1 spent: hit 1000 coins, though, and that upgrades to a 10% off coupon. Creality’s loyalty system awards variable points per spend depending on the region, supplemented by tiered reward levels that unlock extras like free shipping coupons and access to exclusives, with earned points only redeemable in an exclusive rewards store according to point value pricing.
We can see the value in a frictionless system like Bambu Lab’s for high-frequency spenders. Granted you have to wait for the credits to clear, but there’s an immediacy to that credit once you have it, rather than working toward a higher points value or forking points into gift cards before you can use them on a purchase.
The terms and conditions go into finer detail – credits expire a year to the month from when they were earned – but we cover the main beats above. If you’re planning to pick up one (or many) of the H2D, H2C or H2S printers, they bag you double Bambu Credits until July 15 (the end of the company’s ongoing anniversary sale.)
