Desktop 3D printers are wildly popular because of all the cool and unique prints they can produce. Unfortunately, all these cool designs can cause clutter to build up in your workspace as more tools and supplies join the group.

Among the common solutions that makers use to combat this mess and organize their spaces are pegboards, including the immensely popular Ikea Skådis. For those who’ve somehow missed the boat, a pegboard is a flat board perforated with an even grid of holes that pegs, hooks, and other accessories can be easily fitted into.

This is extremely useful, not only because you get to have your tools visually available – as opposed to in drawers where you lose track of what you’ve got – but you’re also making good use of vertical space. Shelves don’t always fit the different sizes of your tools, but with pegboards, you can move things around according to new additions with no issue.

But why should you buy accessories and hooks to organize your pegboard when you can print all the upgrades you could want yourself? These print-at-home designs can get pretty cool, far exceeding the existing accessories on the market.

If you’re looking to organize your supplies, find a permanent home for tools, or upgrade your maker space, look no further. And if you find a design or two (or more!) that you think would be perfect for your workspace but don’t have a 3D printer close by, with Craftcloud by All3DP, your picks will be printed in great materials and delivered to your doorstep.

Now, let’s look at the best pegboard accessories to 3D print!

Pliers Holder

This is a useful but hard-to-find pegboard hook, one that holds the pliers upside down, bracing them with their width rather than sliding them into a bucket-shaped holder.

As the Thingiverse comments show, these plier holders are easy to print and other makers love them, but they do require supports. Be careful when cutting the supports away, as you don’t want to weaken the legs.

Caliper Holder

How do you measure a caliper?

If you’re into 3D printing, it’s a good idea to learn how to design your own models using CAD software. By doing so, you unlock lots of new possibilities because you can create exactly what you need or want. When designing, a caliper is a must-have, as precise measurements can be crucial when modeling your parts. You can also use this tool for other projects, such as building a Voron or checking if a design on the internet fits your needs. You really can’t go wrong with this pegboard accessory!

You should print this model standing up, enabling supports to successfully print the pegboard mounts on the back part of the holder. The creator suggest using 20% infill, but you can even go higher since this is a tool that you’ll probably use often. Consider using a raft since the contact area of the print with the build plate is quite thin.

  • Who designed it? averypierce

Introducing the award-winning Modular Tape Storage, a clever design by RyukyuD that emerged victorious in the September 2022 Pegboard Accessories contest hosted by Printables. This innovative solution offers a practical and versatile storage system for multiple rolls of tape, ensuring easy access to each individual roll.

What sets it apart is the connectors’ universal compatibility with Ikea Skådis, regular pegboard, and even the Honeycomb storage wall. With its practicality, compatibility, and user-friendly printing, this pegboard accessory is a must-consider option for any pegboard or storage wall setup.

All the components can be printed without the need for additional support. To ensure sturdiness, it’s advised to print them with 10 walls, making them solid and durable. However, using at least three walls for other parts is recommended.

Helping Hand

Assistant for a Tidy Workspace
Assistant for a tidy workspace (Source: Amos491 via Printables)

The Pegboard Helping Hand is a unique and attention-grabbing addition to your collection of pegboard accessories. While it may not offer the same practicality as other prints, it serves as an excellent conversation starter and adds a touch of creativity to your workshop or workspace.

The versatile design allows the fingers and hands to securely hold various tools such as scissors, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, cables, and more, showcasing its functionality in a playful and eye-catching way.

Printing the hooks using an 80% infill is recommended for a stronger and more durable structure. This will provide the necessary stability to hold the weight of the tools while maintaining the overall strength of the print. For the rest of the Pegboard Helping Hand, a lower infill percentage of 10-20% should suffice.

The Ikea Skådis Parametric Bottle Holders offer a versatile solution for organizing and securely holding items such as WD-40, spray cans, water bottles, and more. Although you can adjust them to tailor fit any bottle size, the creator has published eight sizes between 40 mm and 80 mm, ensuring a secure and accurate fit for a range of containers.

This design is a remix of the creator’s most liked model, the Parametric Bottle Holders, which was popular among users for being both functional and easy to print. As a pegboard remix, users continue to praise the design’s ability to securely grip cylindrical bottles, ensuring that items remain in place even when the pegboard is jostled or moved.

Additionally, the creator also posted side and top holder remixes to add versatility to the overall system, allowing users to optimize their pegboard setup and create a customized storage solution that suits their preferences.

Filament Rack

This is another spool holder, but it’s a different option than the one previously mentioned. It also does a great job showing off the variety of colors waiting to be printed. Plus, you can keep your spools while the filament is feeding through to the printer, eliminating the need to move spools around – although be careful of the positioning and distance, as you don’t want the spool to roll away!

Another great feature of this holder is that you can keep your spools sealed, since it holds the spool rather than hooking them through the center. This is especially useful for filaments like ABS.

While it’s a fairly straightforward print, the maker recommends using a brim to avoid bad adhesion.

Small Tray

Pegboard mounts are certainly convenient, but they aren’t always the best option for small objects. To get around this, you should consider this next model. It’s a compact tray that will collect all of your small parts in one place. You can choose between four different models to find the one that best fits your needs.

The simple design prints without supports and can be mounted on a pegboard with two universal pegs from the same creator. The only thing you should pay attention to is tolerances. Some users have commented that the fit is a little bit tight, so you may have to sand the pieces down a bit once printed.

When working on projects and 3D printing, you can easily accumulate a lot of waste. If you like a clean desk, this is the perfect accessory for your pegboard. It’s a pretty big bin that can hold all of your filament waste, such as skirts. Alternatively, you can use it to organize objects that are too big to fit in the classic pegboard bins.

This bin needs eight pieces to be assembled: a pivot bin, a peg bin, two pivot pins, and four half-in pins. The printing and assembling process should be quite straightforward, since you don’t need any supports or additional hardware.

LED Light Mount

And then there was light
And then there was light (Source: Chep via YouTube)

Light is fundamental when working on your projects. Although you can buy a desk lamp, why not use your pegboard to mount a LED bar and free up more space on your desk? This minimalist mount snaps onto a LED bar and is fixed in place with the screws used to mount the pegboard to the wall. You’ll need two screws for each of the light mounts so they don’t pivot.

The creator has printed them with an Extra Fast printing profile that he was kind enough to share. With a layer height of 0.28 mm, he has used an extrusion width equal to 110% of the nozzle diameter. In addition, he set a zig-zag infill for the top and bottom pattern with three top and bottom layers and two walls.
