Bambu Lab’s H2D 3D printer and 3D printing toy cultivator the CyberBrick have caught Time’s eye. But what has the internationally impactful publication had to say about them?
Time Magazine exists to keep its fingers on the pulse of the globe, and it’s been doing so for longer than most of us have been breathing. It won’t surprise you at all then to know that the publication has on many occasions put 3D printing or 3D printers under its magnifying glass.
Bambu Lab, for obvious reasons, has caught the attention of Time. This year, the magazine has put both the H2D 3D printer and the new CyberBrick toy-building component suite have both made the Time list of the Best Inventions of 2025.
It isn’t Bambu’s first trip to Time town, back in 2022 the firm had its then freshly-born X1 3D printer in the list. Other 3D printing names have also featured in the list before. Formlabs made the cut in 2024 with its Form 4, and the Czinger supercar (which relies hugely on 3D printed components) has also attracted Time’s eye. Hell, in 2011 a 3D printed dress was even named as one of the Best Inventions of 2011. So, we can’t say Time hasn’t been paying attention. Or, can we?
The magazine’s description for the H2D’s entry into the list strikes us as slightly odd, reading like something written by somebody who’s only seen some specifications on paper. Now, perhaps this brief paragraph is written purely for the interest of Time’s Joe Average, but still… if you’re in 3D printing deep, the following will sound rather weird.
“The device’s dual nozzle setup can print as thin as 0.2 millimeters.” Yes, true. But, so could the majority of 3D printers almost a decade ago. “Materials extruded through it—which pass by 15 strategic sensors before extrusion…” Strategic sensors are presumably better at Age of Empires III than other sensors. “Add in an optional laser engraver and pen and the H2D becomes a complete fabrication machine.” Well, if the tip of the pen can CNC some aluminum for us, absolutely.
Next time, Time (ha!), why not give me a call? I’d be happy to get my name into Time Magazine. If one of my colleagues doesn’t beat me to it…
