UltiMaker has released Cura 5.11 beta, an update promising to deliver superior control and significant print quality enhancements to users.

The core of the release is a new suite of painting tools, designed to provide the user with greater flexibility and control in the print preparation stage. Users can now precisely indicate to the software where on their model they wish to define the exact location of the Z-seam, or to block areas where seams should not appear. For multi-material prints, a simple brush workflow lets you easily assign different model regions to specific extruders, with all painted preferences also savable within project files for job consistency.

Those operating the newer UltiMaker professional printers (the S6 and S8) get special attention. 5.11 beta offers expanded print core compatibility, now supporting AA 0.25, AA 0.4, AA 0.8, CC 0.4, and CC 0.6 cores. Furthermore, popular material profiles like PLA, Tough PLA, ABS, and PETG have been overhauled to produce smoother surfaces, stronger parts, and improved dimensional accuracy. New draft intent profiles have also been added for faster printing options.

Beyond these two major headlines from the release, the beta introduces several advanced settings for greater control over extrusion and cooling, including the option for retraction during travel moves for cleaner prints, as well as new settings for initial layer and build volume fan speeds.

Lastly, the update integrates various community-driven improvements, such as updated post-processing scripts and retraction setting refinements, and features dozens of bug fixes that improve stability across all major operating systems.

The Cura 5.11 beta is available now for download, inviting users to test these new 3D printing possibilities. Full details of the release plus the download can be found here.
