Qidi’s New Plus5 Brings an 18% Bigger Bed for $749, Handles Up to 16 Spools

The enclosed CoreXY printer boasts a more powerful chamber heater, nozzle-contact leveling, an X-axis linear rail, new AI camera detection, and three-stage filtration, compared to the Plus4.

Qidi just launched the Plus5, a large, enclosed CoreXY 3D printer that builds on the company’s Plus4 formula rather than tearing it up and starting again.

A $899 Plus5 Combo adds the four-spool Qidi Box for automated filament switching. Connect up to four Boxes for 16-filament printing.

Both versions are listed as in stock, with Qidi saying U.S. orders will ship from its domestic warehouse within three business days of processing.

Bigger, but Not Much Bulkier

The Plus5 offers more space than the Plus4’s 305 x 305 x 280 mm build area at just about the same price. Qidi calls it an 18% increase in volume without a major jump in external size.

The printer measures 500 x 488 x 558 mm and weighs 29 kg, so it will still need a solid workbench.

Its CoreXY motion system uses 9-mm-wide belts, an X-axis linear rail, and two independently driven Z-axis lead screws. The build plate combines an aluminum platform, silicone heater, and double-sided PEI-coated magnetic sheet.

The hot end reaches a claimed 370 °C and ships with a 0.4-mm bimetal nozzle. A direct-drive extruder with hardened-steel gears handles filament.

The bed tops out at 120 °C, while the actively heated chamber reaches 65 °C. Qidi lists PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, nylon, polycarbonate, reinforced filaments, and even PPS-CF as compatible.

An active tool-head cooling system is also said to reduce heat creep and clogging during long, high-temperature prints.

Fast, With Caveats

Qidi quotes speeds of up to 600 mm/s, acceleration of 20,000 mm/s², and a maximum flow rate of 40 mm³/s like the Plus4. The company’s FAQ adds some perspective: high-speed PLA and ABS printing will typically be limited to around 30 mm³/s. Actual performance will depend on the filament, nozzle, and layer settings.

New type of automatic leveling uses a load cell in the hot end, allowing the nozzle to probe the bed directly.

Other features include input shaping, filament runout detection, power-loss recovery, timelapse recording, and the ability to skip a failed object during a multi-part print. Tangle detection requires the optional Qidi Box.

A built-in 1080p camera supports what Qidi calls AI anomaly detection, although the company does not explain exactly which failures it can recognize.

The Plus5 also includes a four-inch touchscreen, 32 GB of eMMC storage, USB, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and an RGB status light. It runs Klipper and supports Qidi Studio, OrcaSlicer, and PrusaSlicer.

Up to 16 Filaments

Each Qidi Box holds four spools and can switch between them automatically. The Box also works as a 65 °C heated dryer and can switch to a fresh spool when filament runs out.

One Box is included with the $899 Combo, although Qidi says it ships separately from the printer.

The Plus5 uses a three-stage filtration cartridge comprising a G3 pre-filter, an H12 HEPA filter, and coconut-shell activated carbon. Qidi claims the system captures 99.5% of dust and particles.

The printer also features closed-loop temperature monitoring and a flame-retardant chamber. Qidi recommends leaving clearance around the back, sides, and top of the machine for ventilation and cooling.
