Qidi Tech Unveils Qidi Box, a Multi-Material System & Dryer

Qidi Tech has officially, finally launched the Qidi Box, a multi-filament automatic feeding system first teased in October 2024. Initially announced with limited details and a projected Q1 2025 release, the device is now in Qidi’s online store for presale at $228. It is designed to be compatible with the company’s Plus4 3D printer, though its broader compatibility with older Qidi systems was not initially specified.
The Qidi Box is engineered to house up to four filament spools enabling multi-material printing for Qidi users, effectively enabling the use of up to 16 different filaments for complex, multi-color prints, if you connect four Qidi Boxes together.
Unlike some material stations, the Qidi Box has an automatic filament reloading feature that seamlessly switches between spools to facilitate continuous printing. It also offers options for printing with snap-away or dissolvable support materials, intended to simplify post-processing.
For material handling inside the box, there’s a hardened steel dual-gear extrusion system to pull the filament and feed it through to the printer. Qidi Tech says this will ensure long-lasting durability and stable feeding for a wide range of filaments including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and other composites.
The system also supports real-time filament drying at temperatures up to 65°C, designed to maintain optimal material conditions during printing. The system automatically cuts power when detecting abnormal temperatures from its dual sensors to ensure safe operation, the company says.
The Qidi Box has dimensions of 357 x 300 x 234 mm and a net weight of 4.35 kg. It supports 1.75 mm filament diameter and is compatible with spools ranging from 50 mm to 72 mm in width and 195 mm to 202 mm in diameter.
There’s NFC technology for filament recognition, which automatically adjusts settings for Qidi-branded filaments, aiming to streamline the setup process. Filament monitoring capabilities extend to tangle, clog, and run-out detection.
