Catching up on projects over the break? PCBWay has shaved 10% off two specific engineering resins that offer toughness and transparency.
If you’re planning to use the coming holiday break to catch up on project work and get things off the ground, there’s a material drop worth looking at. While our inboxes are recovering from the general Black Friday deluge, manufacturing service PCBWay has quietly cut prices by 10% on two of their specific engineering-grade resins: Somos Ledo 6060 and UTR-8100.
The price drops target specific functional needs rather than general hobbyist stocking stuffers, mirroring the company’s approach earlier this year when they slashed prices on flexible TPU. If you have a part that exceeds the capabilities of your desktop machine, these materials might bridge the gap.
First up is Somos Ledo 6060, a widely used ABS-like resin developed DSM (now Covestro). It is designed to take a bit of a beating, making it a solid choice for functional parts – think snap-fits, durable enclosures, or automotive components – where standard resins, which are usually quite brittle, snap under load.
Beyond just impact resistance, it is noted for its water resistance and dimensional stability. With that said, its heat deflection temperature sits around 58°C, which puts it about on par with regular fused filament fabrication-printed PLA – fine for room temperature usage where the part isn’t subject to direct sunlight or proximity to components that generate heat. While it is a significant prototyping upgrade for mechanical verification where the detail or intricacy only possible with resin printing is needed, it’s not a replacement for high-performance thermoplastics.
On the visual side, UTR-8100 is the candidate for optical clarity. It’s intended for applications like lenses, electronic casings, or fluid flow analysis models where internal visibility is paramount.
It resists yellowing much better than typical hobbyist “clear” resins, meaning you can get lasting glass-like finish from parts printed in UTR-8100. An alternate finish is available giving a frosted look, too. There are many, many guides out there for achieving similar looks on home-printed parts, but for the effort involved the advantage of using a printing service makes sense, particularly in situations where you need few or one-off parts with this specific finish.
The discount kicks in automatically at checkout, deepening a general discount and other specials PCBWay is offering for the holidays.
