Flashforge brought a noticeably quieter presence to Formnext than previous years, foregoing the flashy hardware reveals typical of the Frankfurt event.
With no new machine debuts on the docket, Flashforge instead dedicated its floor space to the highlights of its consumer and professional line-ups, including the Adventurer 5X (AD5X), WaxJet 530, and technical resins for its DLP machines.
The AD5X, which brings multi-material capabilities to the company’s entry-level Adventurer lineup, served as the booth’s hobbyist anchor, and while it lacks the novelty of a brand-new launch, Flashforge reps report that the machine has become a volume seller for the brand. The printer pairs the core mechanics of the Adventurer 5M with a material switching module that sits on the side of the machine. It’s Flashforge’s approach to affordable single-nozzle multicolor FDM printing.
Long-time followers of the brand might have noticed a conspicuous absence: the CJ270. This full-color material jetting printer debuted at last year’s Formnext, promising color fidelity (similar to PolyJet technology) in a desktop form factor.

While the hardware itself was not on display this week, full colors prints from, and literature for, the machine were. Asked about its absence, a Flashforge representatives did share that Flashforge will be gearing up for a launch early next year, with a price point close to $5,000 – a massive adjustment from previous estimates, which placed the machine closer to the $10,000 mark. If Flashforge can deliver full-spectrum resin jetting – tech usually priced in the tens of thousands – at this new price point, it could be even more disruptive than we previously theorized.
In the meantime, Flashforge is leaning into the holiday sales season. The company’s Black Friday sale is currently live, with aggressive pricing on the core Adventurer series. Both the standard Adventurer 5M and the multicolor Adventurer 5X are heavily discounted to $219 and $339, respectively, offering a lower barrier to entry for those looking to expand their setup before the end of the year.
