Bucking the modern condition of rising prices, 3D Fuel are the good guys this week, passing newfound savings from its recently expanded operation to customers with lowered prices on everyday filaments.

In an attractive move that’s certain to be welcomed by U.S.-based printing enthusiasts, filament manufacturer 3D Fuel has announced permanent price drops across some of its most popular filaments, resulting from the significant expansion of its U.S. production facility. The company, which prides itself on its American-made materials has, it says, optimized and expanded its manufacturing processes leading to increased efficiency and, commendably, savings that it is passing on to its customers.

The price reductions are pretty substantial and affect a number of the brand’s everyday materials. 3D Fuel’s Standard PLA+ is now 13.2% cheaper, while the price of Tough Pro PLA+ is down 5.6%, and Pro PETG by a significant 17.0%. Pro PCTG sees the largest drop at 24.9%, with the single spool price dropping from $39.90 to $29.95, and making the stronger, PETG-like material a more attractive option for day-to-day printing.

Filament Old Spool Price (USD) New Spool Price (USD)
3D Fuel Standard PLA+ $29.90 $25.95
3D Fuel Tough Pro PLA+ $34.90 $32.95
3D Fuel Pro PETG $34.90 $28.95
3D Fuel Pro PCTG $39.90 $29.95

These changes are particularly noteworthy given the findings of a recent survey we conducted, in which 3D Fuel participated by providing insights into its customer trends. The survey identified PLA and PETG as the two most popular 3D printing materials on the market, and black as the top-selling color. The price drop on these base materials (all of which are available in black) covers all common bases for the 3D printing majority

A release posted to 3D Fuel’s website details the changes that enabled the price drop, key of which was the company’s investment in its Fargo, North Dakota, facility. The expansion of capability not only allows it to trim prices, but also brings shorter lead times and greater consistency across its product line, the company says. It also stresses that the filament formulations remain unchanged, meaning no change to the expected performance and experience from the filament. Head to the 3D Fuel blog for more, or check out the filament for yourself on the 3D Fuel webstore.
