The developers behind popular open-source slicing software OrcaSlicer have released v2.3.1, a maintenance update that mostly focuses on squishing pesky bugs and providing more compatibility with 3D printers.

At the center of v2.3.1 are fixes for several key software issues that should ensure smoother operation for Orca’s many users. Notable bug fixes include the correction of a regression bug that caused incorrect printer model identification for Prusa MK3S and Mini users in the beta release of 2.3.1, and resolving a crash issue that occurred when importing 3MF files saved from the alpha version.

The update also enhances G-Code handling in Z-axis movements and disables the smooth spiral feature in input shaping calibrations, which should potentially prevent spoiled data from interfering with input shaping’s setup.

Beyond bug fixes, v2.3.1 improves the user experience with expanded printer profiles that add or update profiles for the Sovol SV08 Max and Sovol SV01, the Anycubic Kobra 2 Neo, and the Creality Ender 3 V3 KE

There’s a host of minor but welcome enhancements to the quality-of-life experience too, such as the slicer now remembering the slider position in single layer mode within the preview window. Turkish and Portuguese speaking users will also enjoy improved and updated translations in their languages — the latter has over 260-million speakers worldwide.

Lastly, there’s been a jump forward in the quality of Orca’s documentation. Ian Bassi (@ianalexis on Github) getting a well-deserved shoutout for dedicating time for a significant revamp of the OrcaSlicer Wiki, which is a major improvement of an important resource.
