Did one of our editors need a watering can and the chosen model was too cool not to feature in this Thing of the Week? Exactly.

We’ve covered plenty of useful watering 3D models, plus some Arduino systems for makers who want an automated take. But if you’ve only got a small plant or two and you don’t want a watering can that’ll take too much space or that needs a lot of capacity, this design might be just right for you.

Among the many, many, many options out there, this one caught our eye because of its size and cool shape. Can you get more meta than a watering can in the form of a drop? Plus, it’s delicate and cool and definitely makes for a conversation piece.

A remix of a version that presented – according to the designer – a “hard edge line” that they got rid of, this watering can has made the waves at All3DP; like other Thing of the Week models, a couple have had to be printed. Let’s look at how we did it.

3D Printing Tips

The design was sliced in Bambu Studio for the P1P, with Bambu Lab’s PLA Basic Gradient adding an extra dazzling touch with its color change. To make it waterproof, the profile selected was the 0.16mm High Quality, and following some comments and suggestions from makers, we opted for three wall loops and 100% infill in a rectilinear pattern. The results speak for themselves. As in, there are no water stains beneath the can because of how well it’s worked out.

Had we had a transparent filament, we might’ve gone for it because the editor thought it could’ve been an even more dazzling look, and makers seem to agree. Plus, some serious post-processing leads to even more striking creations. But alas, this time we’ve got this green watering can and we’re not complaining.

Who’s the Creator?

As mentioned, maker ryzwick remixed the design from smokyjoe. The former has shared three models on Printables and four on MakerWorld, most in 2023, and the only possibility to support them is to follow them on the platforms. Their designs include a geometric ring holder and a stackable bottle holder, plus a multicolor Totoro.

On the other hand, smokyjoe has shared almost 20 designs on Thingiverse, the latest in 2020. You can also follow him and check out other cool designs, like a tie and bowtie planter and a hand soap dispenser.

Where Can I Download It?

At Printables and MakerWorld (original design by smokyjoe at Thingiverse).

If you like what you see and cannot print it yourself, check out Craftcloud or other 3D printing services.
