Mr Carve's new M7 Pro uses "cold" UV laser tech to deliver scorch-free results on everything from wood to glass to metal.

Mr Carve, the laser engraver maker on a mission to inspire hobbyists and small manufacturers alike, just launched its M7 Pro on Kickstarter, and we’re pretty excited, especially since it’s already fully funded. Mr Carve already markets about a half dozen other engraving machines, but the M7 Pro is by far the most versatile.

Not only is the M7 Pro one of the only compact, sub $5K machines we’ve seen to do internal crystal engraving in addition to surface engraving and relief carving, but it does it with a 5-watt, 355-nanometer UV “cold” laser.

Unlike diode or CO₂ systems, this beam can engrave without scorching, leaving behind exceptionally clean results. Although UVs are typically slower, Mr Carve says you can achieve engraving speeds up to 10,000 mm/second and impressive accuracy down to ±0.001 millimeters. According to the company, this makes it up to 50 times sharper than typical diode systems and more than 100 times more precise than CO₂ alternatives. The firm even touts a “Zero Burn Guarantee,” promising edges that remain crisp and free of thermal distortion.

Aiming to bring engraving to the masses (or those that can afford to spend around $4K), the M7 Pro is fully enclosed in a metal housing that Mr Carve says complies with FDA Class 1 safety standards, shielding operators from laser light, smoke, and debris.

What Can You Engrave On?

Mr Carve says the M7 Pro is compatible with all types of wood, leather, plastics, ceramics, metals, glass, and transparent crystal. For the inner engraving, the only compatible medium are K9 crystals — clear acrylic and other transparents aren’t supported yet. M7 Pro’s UV laser penetrates directly into the crystal, etching your 3D design inside without damaging the surface.

With wood, you can achieve light etching but also some deep engraving that isn’t typical with UV lasers. Mr Crave says its software enables a layered carving process that brings “real depth and texture to wood, leather, and other materials.”

More tricks up the M7 Pro’s sleeve are its rotary and worktable abilities. It can handle cylindrical items, such as mugs, bottles, and pens with an optional rotation add-on. If the machine’s build plate is too small for the object you need engraved, there’s also an adjustable base platform to expand horizontal clearance.

The M7 Pro itself features active air cooling and an advertised laser lifetime of up to 100,000 hours. Depending on the lens used, it offers engraving areas of either 50 by 50 millimeters or 150 by 150 millimeters.

To complement its hardware, Mr Carve’s software suite supports 3D scanning, photo input from smartphones, and automatic in-sculpture enhancement for fine details. It accepts file formats including JPEG, BMP, DXF, AI, STL, and OBJ. The software is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, and the device can connect via both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

On Kickstarter, the campaign has already demonstrated strong momentum, surpassing its initial goal by over 2,300%. The success suggests that the M7 Pro has tapped into a growing demand for versatile, high-precision desktop engraving tools.
