From EnvisionTEC’s debut 4K 3D printer to Nanoe’s ceramic and metal printer, there have been multiple announcements ahead of and for Formnext 2018.

Now, it’s XYZprinting’s turn. The company is unveiling a diverse selection of three new PLA printing materials, catering to both hobbyist and professional printing needs.

The materials include an antibacterial PLA, a copper metallic PLA, and a carbon PLA. They aim to expand both the capabilities of domestic and professional grade 3D printers.

As well as these materials, XYZprinting will also be exhibiting their latest printer, the da Vinci Color AiO at Formnext. This fused filament fabrication (FFF) machine features a 3D scanner and an optional laser engraver.

Simon Shen, CEO of XYZprinting said of the printer: “This latest innovation is a significant step forward for 3D printing, particularly for desktop users. The added features of the printer, the scanner and the engraver, make the Color AiO the most complete desktop 3D printing unit ever developed, giving entrepreneurs and designers the chance to bring their ideas to life, at a lower cost than ever before as they don’t need to purchase multiple units.”

Benefits of XYZprinting’s New Materials

Each of the new materials from XYZprinting fulfils a different purpose. Firstly, the antibacterial PLA is said to destroy up to 99% of bacteria, including E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In fact, the antibacterial agent added to the filament has been safely tested by RoHS and REACH.

XYZprinting believes the material will be hugely beneficial for use in medical environments, schools, and the home. Available in white, red, yellow and neon green colors, the material will cost £25.99 per spool.

Next up, the copper metallic PLA is being launched in conjunction with a new high-speed sintering (HSS) nozzle made from carbon hardened steel so it’s possible to print the material. The PLA comprises 65% copper powder, giving prints a convincing weight and the possibility to polish them, and is aimed at hobbyists who want to create their own ornamental models.

Finally, the carbon PLA “is set to revolutionise functional engineering prototypes, from drones to remote-controlled cars and propellers.” The material is made from 10% carbon fiber, allowing for lighter parts with improved stability and strength.
