This board aims to make ghosting and ringing a thing of the past, and supersede Klipper.
A soon-to-be-released 3D printer control board aims to make your printer move more smoothly, thereby improving print quality and accuracy. The Prunt Board 3 is designed to run Prunt, a new motion control firmware that takes a different approach to how 3D printers move.
Most 3D printer controllers today, including those running Marlin or Klipper, use a 3-phase trapezoidal motion profile: accelerate, cruise at constant speed, then decelerate. While this works well enough, the abrupt transitions between phases can introduce vibrations, which show up as ringing artifacts in prints. That’s why we have to compensate for it with methods like input shaping and pressure/linear advance tuning.
Prunt 3D says their board will use a 31-phase motion profile, although they haven’t gone into detail about how it works. It seems that they will be breaking down each movement into smaller, more gradual transitions – potentially resulting in smoother motion and less mechanical stress. Whether this approach leads to noticeably better prints is something we’ll have to wait and see. They also claim the board will have hardware-accelerated movement step generation, but it wasn’t discussed in details either.
Even aside from motion control, the board is planned to be packed with useful features: true short-circuit detection on heaters and fans, isolated USB to protect connected devices, and a built-in graphical user interface for configuration, which removes the need to edit text-based config files. It will also run Klipper, if you prefer to stick with a more familiar setup.
Crowdfunding for the Prunt Board 3 is expected to launch soon on Crowd Supply. For those curious about alternatives to Klipper and Marlin – or just looking for a robust printer mainboard – it might be worth watching.

Kickstarter, and similar websites, are not shops; campaigns are rarely, if ever, under a legal obligation to deliver on crowdfunding promises, nor offer refunds on unfulfilled campaign rewards.
