Revopoint is back with another Kickstarter-funded 3D scanner: the Revopoint Inspire – a compact, lightweight device that will weigh about as much as iPhone 12 Mini.

Revopoint says the handheld scanner – which will also be compatible with an included tripod – is aimed at hobbyists and makers who want to scan “medium-sized” objects from 50 mm³ to 2,000 mm³. It will be capable of 0.2 mm “engineering-grade” accuracy and deliver scanning speeds of 14-18 FPS.

There will also be an RGB camera that utilizes a flash LED to eliminate shadows and achieve deeper colors. A 9-axis IMU, meanwhile, will work in conjunction with “intelligent algorithms” to provide “smart” scanning stability.

The Inspire will leverage dual infrared LEDs, additional “intelligent algorithms”, and the included 50 x 50 cm “Magic Mat”, which enables users to capture featureless objects without the need for marker stickers. Once released, it will be compatible with iOS, Android, MacOS, and Windows. To scan and edit, users will use Revo Scan 5, Revopoint’s “all-in-one” software.

The Revopoint Inspire has currently racked up over $900,000 on a $20,000 goal, marking another fully funded campaign from Revopoint – which has recently enjoyed a great deal of Kickstarter success with its line of 3D scanners. The Revopoint Range, for example, was funded in 30 seconds and followed the campaigns for each of the POP, POP 2, and MINI 3D scanners, which in total raised more than $8 million.

With remaining packages starting at $299 at the time of writing, the Inspire is priced more affordably than any of the devices on our list of the best affordable 3D scanners, but its MSRP of $439 places it in the middle of the pack. It’s not quite as accurate as our current top pick, Revopoint’s Pop 3, although the Inspire is markedly less expensive and features a larger single capture area (230 x 140 mm as opposed to the Pop 3’s 225 x 125 mm). In all, the Inspire looks like a closer competitor with the Creality Scan Ferret, in terms of specs and pricing.
