RatRig V-Core 4 IDEX Upgrade Now Available
Following the V-Core 4 announcement and subsequent release earlier this year, RatRig’s productivity-boosting IDEX upgrade is now available too.
Here’s something for September: the independent dual extrusion (IDEX) upgrade for RatRig’s open-source V-Core 4 3D printer is now available, meaning not just in the RatRig store but also in documentation.
For the uninitiated, IDEX means a 3D printer with two independent print heads that share the X-axis gantry but can move freely from each other. In practice, this lets you mix materials in a single print and print two models independently but simultaneously (with limitations – fixed X-axis, remember?)
As a part of the V-Core 4 system, RatRig promises lickety-split tool changes that eliminate the need for a wipe tower. Calibration of each nozzle’s offset also looks excellently novel, with RatRig’s video-assisted offset calibration (VAOC) showing you a close-up video feed of the nozzle for you to paint the “center” onto the nozzle opening.
Those buying the printer can now add the IDEX upgrade to their order. Self-sourcers can pore through the bill of materials and CAD drawings at their leisure on the RatRig website and GitHub repo.
