The company has teamed up with Czech game publisher Albi on this partially 3D printed strategy-racing hybrid. It's available now, but won't ship until next year.
This collaboration sees Prusa lending its printing prowess for Crash Derby, a 2-4 player tabletop board game that blends racing strategy with the chaos of demolition derby. Players are tasked with collecting flags from around the game board, all while actively disrupting opponents and staying several steps ahead of a rotating queue of actions.
This programmable movement system uses a three-gear “steering wheel” with a catch: the gears rotate at the end of each round. If you don’t anticipate the changing board state, a perfectly planned maneuver can quickly turn against you, with the car misbehaving to “do its own thing.” The video embedded below gives a sense of the game. Note that it’s from earlier this year, showing prototype pieces – the finished parts look slicker.
Crucially, Prusa hasn’t just slapped their logo on the cardboard box. While the base set is fully playable out of the shrink-wrap – including four printed car miniatures – the game is designed as a “hybrid” product complemented by the company’s model repository, Printables. With that said, it functions completely as a standalone experience if you don’t have a 3D printer. For those that do, the game is a starting point for parts replacement and expansion.
Files for additional car models and player boards are already up on Printables, with a blog post announcing the game promising community design contests to crowdsource future expansions and mechanics.
The game was previewed at PAX Unplugged and is currently available for pre-order. Shipping won’t begin until January next year, meaning no one will physically find the game under their tree this Christmas.
We didn’t have Prusa releasing a board game on our 2025 bingo cards. There’s still a couple of weeks of the year left, so who knows what else can happen. You can pick up a copy of Crash Derby for $48.99 over at the Prusa webstore.
