Billed as a “high-end extruder for industrial filaments,” Phaetus’ Apus extruder is now on the market.

The manufacturer’s latest release is compatible with all thermoplastic filaments, “typical” composite fiber filaments, and composite filaments “such as steel, wood, boron carbide, tungsten, and fluorescent materials.”

Also featured is a 155 g aluminum frame, RNC dual drive gears with specialized teeth for better filament grip, a universal, quick-swap mounting system for Phaetus and Drop Effect hot ends, and a “three-screw system” that allows easy maintenance with the removal of only three screws. A small Nema 14 stepper motor powers the extruder. Phaetus claims a side-mounted manual wheel enables convenient filament loading and unloading.

We saw the Apus up close and in person at Formnext 2022 and learned that it was designed to place the center of gravity close to the extruder’s mounting points. This should, in theory, mean the unit’s mass doesn’t contribute much to the print head’s inertia, meaning faster printing and better prints.

The Apus extruder is available at various internet resellers for approximately $79. For more information and complete specs, visit the Apus extruder product page on the Phaetus website.
