Overture3D’s New Rock PLA Wood Series: The “Wood” Filament That’s Actually Made With Stone
Overture3D says it's new Rock PLA series replicates organic grain patterns using marble dust for a clean, hassle-free print.
Filament maker Overture3D just added four new colors to its popular Rock PLA filament line with a new Wood Series, offering four “natural wood-inspired” shades that marry forest aesthetics with the ease of PLA 3D printing.
The Wood Series, though, does not contain any wood powder or wood particiles, like you’ll find in other wood-filled PLA filaments, Overture told All3DP. “Our Rock PLA does contain small particulates of rock/marble powder to obtain a smooth stone like texture our Rock PLA wood colors do not contain wood or fiber particulates.”
The wood colors — Jarrah, Cheesewood, Walnut Wood, and White Oak — do impart a distinct natural grain look and feel to 3D prints, according to Overature. Targeted prints include decorative pieces, doolhouse furniature, and architectural models.
Jarrah delivers a deep, rich reddish hue, while Cheesewood offers a softer, creamier tone. Walnut Wood channels a classic dark wood look, and White Oak brings a brighter, airy aesthetic that can suit modern designs.
These additions reflect a growing trend within the 3D printing community toward materials that not only perform well technically but also enhance the “finished” look of prints without extensive post-processing, plus don’t look “platic.” Wood-like PLA blends have become popular for items such as home décor, faux furniture components, and artistic objects where the appearance of natural materials is desirable.
Print-Ready with Familiar Settings
Overture emphasizes that despite their unique finishes, the new Wood Series filaments maintain the typical PLA ease of use. Eventhough the series contains rock powder, Overture says “given that most printers have hardened nozzles over the old brass ones – we haven’t noticed any abrasive properties.”
Recommended printing settings remain in the familiar range for PLA materials, with nozzle temperatures around 190 ℃ to 230 ℃ and bed temperatures of 50 ℃ to 70 ℃, which makes the series accessible to a broad spectrum of desktop 3D printers.
To further promote the new Wood Series, Overture is encouraging creators to share their prints on social media using branded hashtags, with the possibility of being featured on official channels. Early reactions on platforms like X and Facebook highlight community excitement about the expanded color palette and the natural look of the wood-inspired filaments.
