MatterHackers Releases PPS Pro Series Filament

MatterHackers has added PPS to its Pro Series lineup of industrially focused 3D printing materials.

PPS is an interesting entry to the series and is undoubtedly an industrial filament. You’ll often find it offered as a carbon fiber composite, which can help maintain its shape during printing. In its “pure” form without fiber, however, it can be trickier to work with.

You’ll need a heated chamber to avoid issues with warping, and also to dry it for four hours at 110 °C before printing, store it in a dry box, and potentially anneal your finished parts.

Should you be willing to go to the trouble, the results should speak for themselves. Parts printed with PPS exhibit very high chemical resistance and thermal stability (from -100 °C to more than 200 °C, MatterHackers claims), as well as flame retardant, self-extinguishing, and electrical insulation properties.

Add that to high dimensional stability and low moisture absorption, and your prints will be well-suited to a variety of high-performance applications. The most relevant for All3DP’s readers are perhaps related to connectors, switches, and circuit board insulation found in electronic devices, but Matterhackers also mentions “automotive parts” and “precision tools”.

MatterHackers’ Pro Series PPS filament is available on in a “natural” color in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm diameters, both of which cost $125 per .75 kg spool. You can find more information, as well as a few additional printing tips, on MatterHackers’ website.
