Bolstering it's already robust educational offerings, MakerBot's new Certification Program for educators has earned the ISTE Seal of Alignment -- verification of a resource's quality for educational development.

Anyone paying attention to MakerBot in the last years will have noticed a growing focus for the company is education.

There’s the MakerBot Educators Guidebook, Thingiverse Education (MakerBot owns Thingiverse), the MakerBot Educators Program and even the MakerBot Certification Program. All initiatives and resources offered by the company and geared toward implementing and improving the use of 3D printing in the classroom.

The latter of those initiatives has just received a big boost with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) awarding it its Seal of Alignment.

Trust in Developing Curricular Goals

The MakerBot Certification Program offers educators in-depth training not only in using the company’s hardware, but in developing a STEM -based curriculum incorporating 3D printing. Following an independent review, the program has been verified by ISTE as up to its standards for schools and educators in particular to easily adopt and support 3D printing in the classroom.

An indicator of a resource being valuable in assisting educators to create technologically innovative learning environments for their students, the badge is a boon for 3D printing in the classroom. MakerBot is the first 3D printing company to earn the seal, although a familiar name is already present on the list of approved resources in TinkerCAD and its Design Academy, which was awarded a Seal of Alignment in 2016.

Speaking of the company’s shift toward education, MakerBot CEO Nadav Goshen said “This ecosystem, this complete solution for educators, hasn’t always existed. We built it over the course of years, placing printers in schools and learning from educators what they still need and what makes the biggest impact on student learning outcomes.
