Makera’s new desktop CNC machine has been raking in the pledges on Kickstarter – here’s all you need to know.
Desktop CNC producer Makera is celebrating some significant success on Kickstarter, with its new entry-level Z1 machine having already attracted pledges worth over $4M. Makera is known for its well regarded Carvera series, desktop CNC machines that are designed and built to be more comfortable to live with compared to some traditional CNCs.
The Carvera series (like most quality CNC systems) doesn’t come cheap, but Makera is now trying to entice newcomers to CNC with its Z1, promising “pro-level power and precision” for first-timers to the hobby. Early birder pledges can bag a Z1 for as little as $899, a 25% reduction on what is assumed to be the final price, and for that sort of outlay there is an impressive specification on offer.
For a start, it should prove to be an incredibly accurate machine. Makera is promising precision of 0.02 mm, and it can work with a strong selection of materials. Aluminum, brass, wood, carbon fiber, acrylic, and PCB to name a few. Makera says this is thanks to (among other things) the high-torque spindle and closed-loop speed control of up to 13,000 rpm. A linear rail motion system supports this alongside NEMA 17 steppers and Acme lead screw drive.
Other features include automatic probing and leveling (with an additional 3D probe rod almost certain to be unlocked as a stretch goal before the remaining 39 days are up), a quick tool changer, a built in camera, and Makera’s “AeroDust” collection system. The latter is crucial for maintaining accuracy and preventing any potential harmful remnants of material entering your local environment. AI also makes an appearance – as it does with just about everything in the world right now – with computing clever-clogs assisting with turning ideas into a 3D model, or providing you with a gallery from which to pick AI models from.

Accessories are also on the way. The Kickstarter page highlights a 4-axis module and a laser toolhead as well as a lighter dust collection system. It seems prices are yet to be announced, however, as a price tag is not forthcoming on the page.
Makera has had considerable success on Kickstarter before, raising millions of dollars for its Carvera series machines, so you can perhaps assign more faith in the brand than others when it comes to crowdfunding security. The firm is also promising a 1-year guarantee and shipping is scheduled to commence in January 2026.
