Lychee Slicer Now Works with Filament 3D Printers

Mango 3D’s Lychee Slicer is now compatible with both resin and filament 3D printers. The announcement is a relatively major shakeup for the consumer space of filament 3D printing, which has, until now, been something of a two-horse race between Ultimaker Cura and PrusaSlicer.

Lychee Slicer’s recent update to version 5.0 introduced the feature, with support for more than 480 models of 3D printer and the promise of continual updates that will add more or improve existing profiles. It’s a public beta alongside the slicer’s stable resin offering, meaning anyone can test it out. Prior users of the slicer can update for access. You can download it for Windows, MacOS, and Linux from the Mango 3D website.

The slicer’s new abilities were revealed in a live stream, which we’ve embedded below at the relevant timestamp.

Features include “Master Profile” and “Override Settings” modes, which enable users to easily tweak settings for specific projects. At the same time, two “automatic support solutions” allow for simple generation and modification of support structures.

The “Banana for Scale” mode, meanwhile, “places you in an environment that helps you better [comprehend your model’s] size,” with a “Layer Thickness Preview” mode intuitively displaying individual print layers. The user interface is a departure for those familiar with Cura and PrusaSlicer, with Lychee emphasizing illustrations and visual representations of the parts of the print you affect with your settings changes.
