Hobbyists and pros alike might want to rethink their next functional print. Elegoo just launched rugged, fiber-reinforced filaments at a surprising price.
Elegoo, the 3D printer maker whose Centauri Carbon FDM is gaining quite the fan base for all the reasons we point out in our recent review, just dropped a collection of fiber-reinforced filaments to complement the machine, expanding its material lineup for those looking for stronger and more rugged options. Elegoo had already offered a carbon-fiber PLA, but in PLA, the carbon fiber is mainly for aesthetics.
“With Centauri Carbon, our FDM performance reached a new level. Now, we want to match it with equally capable materials,” said Chris Hong, founder and CEO of Elegoo. “Consumer 3D printing goes beyond toys. It’s a tool for making practical, everyday items, and we hope more people experience that.”

The three new filaments — available now in the U.S., EU, UK, CA, AU, and on Amazon — include Carbon Fiber Reinforced PETG (PETG-CF), Glass Fiber Reinforced PETG (PETG-GF), and Carbon Fiber Reinforced High-Temperature Nylon (PAHT-CF). Elegoo says more filament variants are already in development and will be released in response to user feedback and application needs, so if you like these, there will be more.
Why print with fiber, you may ask, which is a good question. In fact, Elegoo set out to answer that in a user survey and found that there’s low familiarity with fiber-infused materials, and their typically higher costs turn users off.
The main reason to use a fiber-reinforced materials is the added stiffness and strength. Heat from the extruder aligns the embedded fibers in the print direction to gives the final print its extra mechanical properties. Carbon fibers boost strength and stiffness, but lower flexibility, while glass fibers boost strength, stiffness, and impact resistance.
A hardened steel nozzle is recommended for printing with carbon or glass fiber infused materials, along with a nozzle temperature that can reach at least 240 °C for PETG-CF and -GF, and 260 °C for PAHT-CF. Elegoo says an enclosed printer is required for best results using the PAHT-CF.

PETG-CF (black/grey, 0.5kg $9.99, 1kg $18.99) combines the toughness of PETG with the rigidity of carbon fiber. With a matte surface finish that resists abrasion and hides layer lines, this filament is ideal for functional parts and outdoor items. Typical applications include fixtures, lightweight brackets, bicycle parts, enclosure components, gears, latches, automotive parts, and mechanical enclosures.
PETG-GF (black/grey/white, 0.5kg $9.99, 1kg $18.99) infuses PETG with glass fiber to gain enhanced hardness and abrasion resistance, while also providing electrical insulation due to the non-conductive nature of glass fibers. This material also has a matte surface that minimizes layer visibility. PETG-GF is ideal for functional parts requiring both durability and insulation. Recommended applications include electrical enclosures, internal structures of industrial machinery, tooling fixtures, bicycle pedals, connectors, and abrasion-resistant terminals.
PAHT-CF (black, 0.5kg $21.99, 1kg $39.99) combines carbon fiber with high-temperature nylon. This material delivers exceptional heat resistance, according to Elegoos, along with mechanical strength and chemical corrosion resistance. Withstanding temperatures up to 194°C, it maintains structural integrity under thermal stress for consistent performance. PAHT-CF is ideal for high-demand applications, such as motor housings, engine components, heat-resistant fixtures, gears, bearings, and structural or metal-replacement parts in automotive and industrial settings.
