Continuing its tradition of releasing the design and process documents of its flagship printers, BCN3D has made good with new open repos of its Sigma R19 and Sigmax R19 printers.
BCN3D, the Barcelona-based manufacturer of the distinctive Sigma and Sigmax independent dual extruder (IDEX) 3D printers has released the complete package of design documents, materials lists, blueprints, and sundry other sheets necessary to develop its award-winning 3D printers.
Continuing a long-held policy of open-sourcing its machines, which began in 2015 with the release of files for its original Sigma printer, this latest file dump marks the third such time, reinforcing the company’s commitment to its open source principles, even after splitting out from its educational institution to become a privately operated entity earlier this year.
Speaking about the release, RepRap pioneer Richard Horne said: “With the many enhancements to the R19 and collaborations with other key component suppliers, the team at BCN3D are helping bring the open source 3D printing community towards a more connected ecosystem.” Besides design documents, electronic diagrams and details of the customized firmware used, the release also dives into the process engineering of each printer.
