Bambu Lab's slicer software is now in version 2.1.0 and a host of little changes, updates, and features have been added.

Bambu Studio has been updated, bringing a number of changes and enhancements to the slicer – the most notable of which is a new Locked Zag infill pattern.

Locked Zag is an infill pattern designed to balance strength with an appealing appearance, and it consists of two parts. First is the “skin”, which wraps around the external contours of the model and ensures surface quality on par with standard Cross infill and thereby enhances the appearance. The second is the “skeleton”, which makes use of a zigzag structure internally to increase the strength of the print.

It also tackles the problem of interrupted infill generation, which can be caused by differing density or line width parameters, by providing four parameters of its own to ensure continuity between different areas when changing the selected density and line width.

After a bug was detected, 2.1.0 has optimized the “Avoid Crossing Wall” feature, which should now result in less stringing in certain models. Another 17 bugs have also been seen to with the update, reining in problems such as incorrect layer height restrictions on the H2D, and incorrect infill pathing in narrow areas of some models.

Timelapse users should also see improvements thanks to an optimized extruder movement during timelapse captures – unnecessary travel and noises from the filament cutter stopper have been reduced.

Usefully – and to the pleasure of many users – a function to copy individual print settings from one model to another has been added too, providing a solid improvement in efficiency when working with batches. If you pop it into developer mode you’ll also find the “New Precise Wall” feature, which improves dimensional accuracy and inter-layer consistency by adjusting the gap between outer and inner walls.

Some users are reporting early issues with the update, but as of the time of writing it isn’t immediately clear if the update itself is directly responsible for them. Others have expressed a desire for Bambu Lab to be clearer with their changelogs.
