Thingiverse has announced a new design challenge focused on creative applications for Polymaker’s newly released HT PLA and HT PLA GF filaments. First prize? A 10-kg bundle of Polymaker filament. To sweeten the pot, discount codes are available for makers who want to get started designing.

Polymaker’s new heat-resistant PLA filaments are designed to withstand temperatures up to 150 °C without losing PLA’s ease-of-printing appeal. This addresses a long-standing problem lamented by many in the 3D printing community: the quick deformation of PLA prints whenever temperatures approach the material’s heat deflection or glass transition temperatures.

This Thingiverse challenge gives makers the opportunity to showcase designs that aren’t limited by regular PLA’s shortcomings. From functional to decorative and everything in between, Polymaker is looking for designs to put their HT PLA to the test – so much so that they’re offering discount codes to help you get started:

  • US & Canada: Enter “POLYHTPLA15” during checkout at Polymaker for $15 off filament purchases of $50 or more.
  • EU: Enter “POLYHTPLA15” during checkout at 3D Prima for €15 off purchases of €50 or more.

To participate, design and share an original model that takes advantage of the heat resistance of Polymaker’s new offerings. Submissions must include at least one STL, a photo of a completed print, and the tag “PolyHTPLA”. Older designs seem to be okay to submit as well, as long as they were not uploaded to Thingiverse prior to October 1, 2024.

The design challenge runs until June 30, 2025. For the official rules and more details on how to enter, check out the announcement on Thingiverse.
