New Polar3D Integration Unlocks Fleet Management for Bambu Lab Printers

A new integration brings Bambu Lab's popular high-speed printers to Polar3D's fleet management platform, aiming to solve the challenge of scaling 3D printing programs in education.

Bambu Lab and educational software provider Polar3D have announced a new integration, connecting some of Bambu’s most popular printers directly to the Polar Cloud platform. This partnership aims to give educators better tools to manage entire fleets of 3D printers, schedule jobs, and monitor student activity from a single, secure dashboard.

Although Polar Cloud is not limited to schools, it’s popular with educators because it offers integrated curriculum and design tools. It connects with popular 3D design software like Tinkercad and Onshape.

While Bambu Lab’s software is designed to manage Bambu Lab machines, Polar Cloud is browser-based and designed to manage a multi-brand machine environment where students submit jobs for review by teachers before printing. It has various permission levels among other features.

The integration supports some of Bambu Lab’s most popular models right out of the gate, including the X1C, A1 Mini, and P1P. Support for the H2 Series and the X1E is planned for future releases.

First of Selective Third-Party Integrations

The integration with Polar Cloud is an interesting move in that it may be the first publicly sanctioned collaboration where Bambu Lab opened its software development kit (SDK) to a third-party software provider for fleet management and printer control through official, secure pathways.

Following the security policy changes in January 2025, Bambu Lab shifted from an environment where third parties connected via unofficial, reverse-engineered methods to a new strategy of creating official, secure pathways for vetted partners.

There is a formal application process for third-party software providers to request access to the “Bambu Local Server SDK” indicating that Polar3D may be the first of many partnerships.

Polar3D has been trying to get inside Bambu Labs for a while. It already offered an official Bambu Lab hardware integration, though this requires separate software running 24/7 to serve as a bridge of sorts between Polar Cloud and control over the Bambu Lab hardware. This may now be redundant considering the new integration. Another recent development we covered last month saw Polar3D partner with X1Plus to allow X1/X1C machines with the custom firmware to be natively bound to a Polar Cloud instance, eliminating the dependency on an intermediary software.

Integration Security Checks

Through the Polar Cloud interface, educators can remotely manage printer settings, cameras, and print queue securely, Bambu Lab says. By leveraging Bambu Lab’s “Local Server SDK,” the integration is designed to communicate securely on the local network. The Polar Cloud platform can manage the fleet via the internet, but the actual commands to the printer are likely funneled through a secure local agent that uses Bambu’s official, encrypted protocols. This minimizes direct exposure of the printer to the public internet.

Bambu Lab’s official SDK enforces the use of proper security protocols built on industry-standard practices to ensures that only the legitimate, authenticated Polar Cloud service can send commands to the printer, and all the data in transit is encrypted.

The partnership with Polar Cloud may not be a reversal of Bambu Lab’s security policy, but rather the intended outcome of it. Their goal was to eliminate unofficial connections and replace them with secure, stable, and officially supported integrations. By “opening their SDK” to a trusted educational partner, they solved the security crisis while still allowing their printers to be used in valuable ecosystems like the thousands of schools that rely on the Polar Cloud.

  • Advanced Analytics: Schools can track usage, monitor material costs for budget planning, and identify high-achieving programs with detailed reporting.

The integration is available immediately for all owners of supported Bambu Lab printers and subscribers of the Polar Cloud platform.
