Bambu Lab’s Next Big Move Isn’t a Printer, It’s a Store

Bambu Lab's first physical retail store has opened in Shenzhen’s MixC World mall, kicking off what company says will be a wave of physical locations for the brand, including internationally.

The self-described flagship store is on Bambu Lab’s home turf in Shenhzen. Specifically, in Nanshan District at the massive, high-end MixC mall. It features a large diorama of CyberBrick modular, programmable building blocks as its centerpiece display, alongside a wall of A1 3D printers and the company’s full complement of filaments.

In addition to the company’s full range of printers, visitors to the store will see the entire Maker’s Supply ecosystem of print project components and accessories, plus Bambu Lab-selected community highlights from the MakerWorld community. A release about the opening shared with All3DP also details the availability of a mini-market, where visitors can also purchase 3D printed items, too.

A grand store opening such as this may beg the question of whether there’s enough interest on the street level in 3D printing to justify a retail space. Ten years ago, I would have definitely said “no”, and that answer is probably still a “no, but …”. The reality is probably far more nuanced today.

With large interactive displays and the full ecosystem spread out, a store like this is, effectively, a living, breathing, billboard. More for attention and awareness than selling volumes of machines. Bambu Lab says the 244-square-meter space “transforms 3D printing from abstract technology into tangible experience.”

Physical locations like this offer space for community events and serve as a lightning rod for product launches and special drops.

The intent is clear, though. High profile appearance on the high street and popular malls will be a push to cement itself as a consumer tech brand.
