Already a popular all-in-one software for 3D scanning, photogrammetry, reverse engineering, and quality inspection, Artec Studio is now better integrated and easier to use, the company says.

Artec 3D, the maker of professional 3D scanners and software, today released a significant update to its flagship software, Artec Studio, introducing an automation-focused system it says will significantly reduce the manual work required to process 3D scan data.

The new Artec Studio 20 targets a common bottleneck in the 3D scanning world: the often time-consuming steps needed to turn raw captured data into a finished 3D model. Processing in version 20 of the software is “now up to 70% faster” than previous versions.

The centerpiece of the new release is a feature called “Workflows,” which let you build and save custom, one-click processing routines for repetitive tasks. This is intended to improve consistency and reduce human error by ensuring the same processing steps are applied to similar objects every time.

Art Yukhin, CEO of Artec 3D, framed the update as a move to provide concrete efficiency gains. “Our last release turned Artec Studio into a complete package, with practically anything a user could need to capture a 3D model,” he says. “Artec Studio 20 raises the bar in every way possible … that delivers meaningful ROI benefits for customers across industries.”

Software Boost For Specific Scanner Hardware

If you’re an Artec Micro II scanner user, you can now achieve up to four times more detail for fine features and edges when using Artec Studio 20 with the integration of an HD Mode.

If you’re a Spider 2 scanner user, you’ll find the new autopilot for Spider 2 guides you through consistent processing in just a few clicks. Improved visualization and live previews confirm full coverage before you finish scanning. Improved reconstruction also delivers more complete datasets for realistic, watertight models with applications in heritage preservation, education & medical, where detail capture is key.

The performance of Artec 3D’s first industrial laser scanner, Artec Point, has been upgraded with better visualization for 100% faster data capture and a more intuitive scanning experience. Other devices like the wireless Artec Leo and long-range Artec Ray II also benefit from wider improvements, including a fusion setting redesign and workflow automation.

Beyond its own hardware, Artec is continuing to develop its AI-powered photogrammetry engine. The software’s ability to create 3D models from photos now includes refined masking to produce cleaner models from images, preventing background elements from blurring into the subject. It also adds multi-camera support, opening the tool to data captured by drones, smartphones, and other cameras.

The update signals a continued focus on interoperability. Artec Studio 20 introduces improved integration with third-party industrial software, including a streamlined export to Zeiss Inspect and added support for file types used in popular BIM platforms like Autodesk Revit.

Users with an annual subscription can use scripting to set up workflows that import, process, and export data to third-party software. This integration allows for batch processing, saves users from sitting at their PCs, and unlocks further opportunities for accelerating the processing of similar datasets via fully autonomous file transfer.

Artec Studio 20 is available now.
