Let the capybaras march into your life with a simple Bambu Lab kit, a few hours of 3D printing, and lots of fun to be had!
There’s been a boom in capybara popularity, and it’s not a mystery as to what’s driving this interest. These rodents are quite chill and photogenic (just don’t kick them out of their environment by building houses). It’s no surprise that designers have created many models in their image, and the creativity only keeps increasing with the combination of materials, ideas, and gadgets.
And this is where the wind-up capybara… walks in. Thanks to Bambu Lab’s wind-up walking mechanism kit, once you’ve printed these cuties, you can have them go on adventures wherever you are. You could always print different animals and ghosts, plus Darth Vader (because why not?), and have them all compete in races.
Oh, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. Let’s take a step back and take a look at how to create the wind-up capybaras first, our pick for this Thing of the Week.
It’s always nice when the designer’s considerate to a variety of 3D printing setups, and this is no exception. With printing profiles for both AMS and non-AMS setups, for just the one capybara or a whole army of them, as well as specific options for the A1 Mini, you’re bound to find the option that’s just right for your workspace.
Once you import the print profile into Bambu Studio (for example, for the A1 Mini), you’ll see that the layer height is set at 0.8 mm, the seam has been moved to the back, and the infill’s left at the standard 15%. The smaller layer height can be expected given the level of detail that wants to be achieved with the model, as well as the fact that the different parts need to be printed and assembled – make sure your printer’s tolerances are good.
The creator opted for three Bambu Lab PLAs, but among the makes, you can find designers who printed in a single color and then painted the capybara, adding even more fun to the creation!
The designer behind both the wind-up capybara, as well as Darth Vader, Goomba, Stormtroopers, kiwi, and more, is known as wuguigui. And no, not all their designs are wind-up toys; from the around 90 models shared, standouts include a shell lamp, foldable hangers, and spiral flowerpots.
