Lucky 13 is a 3D printable jointed figure that designer soozafone blessed the 3D printing community with in 2022. Since then, the modular figure’s taken the internet by storm with the thousands of different poses it can strike, not to mention all the remixes of pop culture references to recreate famous scenes with Lucky 13.
Artists will be familiar with the base design of a jointed figure to assist with drawing or painting, but Lucky 13’s taken on a life of his own within the 3D printing community. As of this article’s writing, over 2,000 images of Lucky 13 have been shared on Printables. There are over 300 remixes to give Lucky props, new body parts, or transform him into your favorite character.
Lucky’s popularity is in part due to how easy he is to print and assemble from snap-together parts. Not a single body part requires supports and they all snap beautifully together without glue or other post-processing. Plus, soozafone provides a PDF assembly manual along with the STL files to help.
While Lucky 13 is great on thier own, don’t limit yourself to your imagination when there are already over 2,000 poses. Check out our selection of 13 favorite Lucky 13 variations.
It all starts with a 3D printer.
We can all relate to waiting and watching a 3D printer finish, though Lucky 13 looks comfier than we ever feel. Chalk that up to his always-on-display style.
Printables has a variety of 3D printer model designs that you can choose from. Most are FDM to replicate the arguably more popular brands of printers. Let us know in the comments if Lucky 13 should have a Prusa, Creality, Bamboo, or another brand!
We’ve all been there. Head in hands devasted over a failed print. Lucky 13’s taken that despair to another level, watching the disastrous aftermath of a print that could have been its brother.
While we can’t tell you how to recreate this perfectly failed print (you’ll likely get there on your own eventually), this Lucky 13 print doesn’t require any remixes or modifications. Follow the standard assembly guide, then contort your Lucky 13 into misery.
This Lucky 13 remix gives us not only cute rabbit ears, it’s also a new head for Lucky to make him resemble your favorite sci-fi robots like Chappie or Briareos.
This remix is super popular with the Lucky 13 crowd; there are already over 60 makes and almost 10 more remixes of the head and ear design.
The Force is strong with Lucky 13. Will you configure or remix yours to join the dark side as Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper, General Grievous, or battle droids? Or will Lucky help the Jedis as R2-D2 or C3PO?
These designs are minimal modifications to Lucky 13, but each remix has its own specifications to print so be sure to check the comments from the designers. A few of these are separately printed parts that require glue to attach.
Most of the different designs come with lightsaber files. How many colors of filament you have is the only limitation on your variations, although we’d suggest at least printing enough to satisfy General Grievous.
Lucky 13 and his crew can ride around looking chic in their new set of wheels, custom designed for the figurine. Ouky1991 designed this car for Lucky to slot into, based on a modern replica of a 1967 Ferrari 312 Formula One vehicle. You can also download the design from Printables and 3D print it for Lucky.
Be warned though, the car prints in many, many parts that require assembly (Printables has 183 files to download) – but once you’ve put it together, Lucky 13 will have functioning doors, steering, shifting, suspension, and moving engine pistons.
Turn Lucky 13 into your favorite professor, Indiana Jones. The designer remixed some existing 3D printed Indiana Jones accessories meant for Lego to turn Lucky into the famed archeologist.
This remixed design comes with 16 files to give Indy his trademark hat, whip, shirt, jacket, flaming torch, and even snakes to decorate around him. Why did it have to be snakes?
You’ll need to print this design’s custom head to fit the hat on properly, and both prints require supports.
Wings (with little wing ears) for Lucky 13 is one of our favorite remixes. Take your fighting poses up a notch by taking them aerially. Beware though, push Lucky’s limits too far and winged-Lucky could become a fallen angel.
And as a bonus, the wing ears slot perfectly into the rabbit ears head from earlier in the list!
What’s better than one Lucky 13? Two! Although this isn’t necessarily a super lucky example.
A moment that’s unlikely to be forgotten anytime soon, these Lucky 13s couldn’t help but recreate the viral Oscars slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock. Like Smith, awards voters could punish Lucky by uninviting him from future Design of the Year shows.
Another print that doesn’t require any mods or remixes except printing a second Lucky. You have a collection of them by now, right?
Lucky 13’s been through a lot lately, help him calm down and find his inner peace with this yoga pose. It’ll give his limbs a chance to reset before his next action set.
Maybe seeing his calm can help makers find their own. (If they aren’t too busy watching the 3D printer and waiting.)
Nothing special or difficult about this Lucky 13. If you’ve already printed one you can configure yours to match while reading the rest of this article.
For all his many virtues, Lucky 13’s face can be a little devoid of emotion. Enter Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This remix brings one of the most expressive faces in Hollywood to Lucky’s body, giving his thousands of action poses new meaning.
Johnson’s head is sliced diagonally at the back, giving Lucky “The Rock’s” best look. The head should be printed with the back lying flat so that the face can have maximum detail.
Lucky 13’s grabbing his helmet and stick to celebrate winning the Stanley Cup in this hockey remix design. Watch him skate his way to a celebratory beer, whether it’s in or out of the Stanley Cup.
If you love small details, the hockey helmet design includes straps that can be attached with tweezers and super glue. There isn’t a Stanley Cup specifically made for Lucky 13, but there are several popular models on Printables that can be scaled down to match Lucky, like this one printed at 16%.
Not a hockey fan? You could always skip the helmet and stick and just print a six-pack of the beers for your crew of Luckys.
It’s a dark day when Lucky 13’s forced to face off against another Lucky 13.
Many of the designs and poses show that Lucky’s a brave warrior, but he’s no match for himself. Lucky 13 got the best of him this time, knocking Lucky over the edge to his doom.
You need to print two Lucky 13s to recreate this setup, but who isn’t building armies of Luckys?
Eventually, you’ll tire of playing with Lucky 13 or have other obligations forcing you to put him away. When the time comes, let him rest easy in a box specially built for Lucky and his accessories.
There’s even a bumper guard remix of this remix to keep Lucky’s box sealed shut during bumpy transport. Just don’t forget about him in there and have it turn into Lucky’s coffin – those bumpers could cause a buried-alive situation for Lucky.
The box and lid can print separately or side-by-side, depending on the print bed you have available. In addition to room for Lucky to stretch out, this box can hold 12 extra hands, has a dedicated spot for his hat, and a variety of accessories can snap onto the lid.
