CES 2016 brings not one, not two, but eight new printers from XYZprinting — including the compact da Vinci Mini retailing for $269.

The 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas hasn’t officially opened yet, but the major players are going ahead and launching their new products anyway. 3D printer manufacturer XYZprinting has expanded their range with a staggering eight new 3D printer models, including three consumer-friendly printers.

Perhaps the most impressive new product is the da Vinci Mini, a machine that’s ultra small, lightweight, portable, and wifi- and USB-enabled. More importantly, it comes with the ridiculously small price tag of $269. It may be 30% smaller than the Junior, but maintains the same build size of 5.9”x 5.9”x5.9.”The coming year is all about bringing printers into the mainstream, and this printer was designed to do exactly that.

By comparison, the da Vinci Junior 1.0 3-in-1 has a few more bells and whistles. Estimated at $549, the Junior adds three cool capabilities to the traditional printer: laser engraving, auto-calibration, and 3D scanning. The auto-calibration was added to check and ensure that distances are measured correctly, resulting in a more accurate print.

The da Vinci Junior 2.0 Mix does something a little more artsy. Using a new dual-extruding single nozzle, two filaments can be blended together. The result is a print that gradually changes color. With an expected price of $499, it’s not entirely clear how useful a dual-extruding nozzle will be, but consumers are bound to be happy they have the choice.

Several other business, education, and professional level models were also released. XYZprinting rolled out their first 3D printing pen, and a post curing machine designed to provide consistent results after stereolithographic (SLA) printing.

While their consumer printers are certainly more exciting for the average maker, their commercial printers are causing a stir, as well. The XYZprinting 3D JET business printer is expected to be one of their most competitive products of the year. The company is also trying to push into markets beyond regular printers, and have introduced their own line of wearable, robots, and service bots.

XYZprinting says their focus for 2016 is on B2B printing and exploring new ecosystems. But rolling out affordable tech like the da Vinci Mini seems like the more winning move to us. Here’s hoping the actual quality of the printers is higher than the price tag.
