Aleph Objects have unveiled their latest 3D printer in the LulzBot product line dubbed the LulzBot TAZ 6 just one year after the LulzBot TAZ 5 was released. 

Aleph Objects, based in Colorado, have developed the next in “Earth’s highest-rated desktop 3D printer” line – according to them, that is.

However, with a price tag of $2,500, you may be wondering why such large and expensive printers are doing so well on the market when you can buy a similar sized model for $1000. There are several reasons for this.

First of all, LulzBot 3D printers are “self-replicating” 3D printers based on the RepRap system – meaning they are made mainly of 3D printed parts.

Second, they have an excellent reputation in the maker community for printing reliable and versatile workhorse 3D printers.

Third, the printers are also completely Open Source and have a vibrant and helpful community.

Also, you can print nearly every available filament on them. The TAZ 6 supports over 300 filaments which have been integrated into the Cura LulzBot Edition software and even more are to be added on a regular basis too.

What’s New in the Lulzbot TAZ 6?

The TAZ 6 incorporates several new and useful features. First of all, there’s a self-cleaning, self-leveling and even a modular tool head for flexible and multi-material upgrades (see above).

You could argue that the best aspects of this 3D printer are both the max print speed of 200mm/s and the layer thicknesses between 0.05mm and 0.05mm. But as well as this the build volume is also pretty impressive with a printing area of 280mm x 280mm x 250mm, which is nearly the size of a basketball.
