This 3D printed Raspberry Pi mount lets you upcycle the drive bay on your PC. It’s like playing Russian Dolls, but with personal computing.

Do you have a desktop PC tower? Does it still have a drive bay for a floppy disk drive? Then this is the hack for YOU.

Because let’s face it, no-one uses that drive bay on their PCs anymore. Despite the fact that floppy disks are a dead physical format, many computer manufacturers still reserve space for them on their tower PC cases.

So here’s a neat trick if you have access to a 3D printer. Stick a mini computer inside that slot using a dedicated Raspberry Pi mount, available to download from Thingiverse.

According to designer Brandon Zupan:

“One day I looked at my computer and thought, how can I make this meta? I decided putting a “computer inside of a computer” would be enough. This is a Raspberry Pi 3 Case that fits inside of a 5.25″ drive bay. It follows the CD drive standards so it should fit in any computer case with drive bays. The only tested case is an Antec 900.”

Raspberry Pi Mount is Like, Totally Meta

The construction process for the Raspberry Pi mount is incredibly simple.

The mount was designed so it won’t need supports if printed, just position it face down on the print bed.

Once fabricated, just screw your Raspberry Pi to it, adjust the wiring, and pop it in the bay.

Plus, if such things matter to you, it’s worth matching the color of the filament to the PC tower. Otherwise, the mount will stick out like a sore thumb!

So, once you’ve got your Raspberry Pi snug inside the PC, what are you going to do with it?
