Arty Caffiene Kick

Ripple Maker is “Last Gadget Standing” for Custom Latte Art

Ripple Maker

The Internet of Things comes to your morning brew, with the award-winning Ripple Maker that creates custom, on-demand latte art within moments.

coffeeThe Ripple Maker is a brand new device which can create high resolution art in the foam of your coffee. And not just any old art, but custom images of your face. That’s one way to wake up in the morning!

Developed by Israeli company Steam CC, the Ripple Maker is already available for commercial use, after extensive testing in multiple coffee venues in New York City.

The technology even picked up an award at CES 2016 last week, winning the public vote in the Last Gadget Standing online contest. Prior to the award, Steam CC CEO Yossi Meshulam said in a press release:

“The reaction to the Ripple Maker from coffee shop owners, baristas and the general public has been as extraordinary as the coffee art they have collectively created. With the addition of the extensive content library and robust consumer app, we look forward to offering the Ripples experience to many more countries and venues around the world.”

How Does The Ripple Maker Work?

pressThe Ripple Maker functions using a patented technology which combines elements of 3D printing with inkjet printing, creating images out of “Ripple Pods” filled with coffee extract.

The coffee extract works as the filament in this process — it’s kept in the Ripple Pods inside the machine, and is then released through nozzles onto the foam in order to perfectly create the chosen image.

You can use the free Ripples App on your own phone to select an image — choosing between an existing Ripples image, or uploading images of your own to create something more personal. It’s possible to scale and edit the image and add text too.

Once chosen, the barista only has to press a button and the image will be printed directly onto the foam. Thankfully the taste of your coffee is not affected at all, since the image is printed with a small amount of coffee!

As an added bonus, the Ripples app is also able to tell you which nearby cafes are using the Ripple Maker.

Meshulam said: “Latte art is one of the most shared images on social media. We’re taking latte art to a whole new level. When you put something beautiful in someone’s hands, they want to share it. That’s how we’re making a ripple on the world.”

For those folks who own a coffee shop and are interested in bringing the Ripple Maker to their customers — the machine is available to lease through a service plan which costs about $85 a month.
