Online 3D printing platform MyMiniFactory is now supporting next generation 3MF files, and becomes a member of the 3MF Consortium.

The ranks of the 3MF consortium are bolstered by another major 3D printing industry player; online 3D printing platform MyMiniFactory announces official support for the next generation format.

Online 3D printing platform MyMiniFactory joins the 3MF Consortium.

MyMiniFactory is a repository for thousands of 3D printable models created by talented designers from around the world. All of these models can be downloaded and 3D printed for free.

The 3D Manufacturing Format (3MF) allows design applications to send full-fidelity 3D models to a mix of other applications, services and 3D printers. By supporting 3MF, MyMiniFactory should have better integration with a variety of 3D printing products and software.

“Alongside other major 3D players like Autodesk, Dassault Systemes and Microsoft, MyMiniFactory is thrilled to now support this file format, and looks forward to seeing more and more creators upload and share 3MF content,” says Romain Kidd, MyMiniFactory CEO.

“The 3MF file format provides an advanced 3D printing file format allowing for textures, colors, and internal structures to be printed easily and for free. MyMiniFactory being an Open and Independent platform, it is important for us to support this file format.”

What is the 3MF Consortium?

Ah yes, at this point you might be asking the question; what the heck is a 3MF consortium anyhow? The 3MF Consortium was formed to close the gap between the capabilities of modern 3D printers and outdated file formats.

The industry-lead consortium’s 3MF specification is designed to eliminate the problems associated with currently available file formats. By resolving interoperability and functionality issues, users can focus more on innovation.

“MyMiniFactory is thrilled to now support this file format, and looks forward to seeing more and more creators upload and share 3MF content.”

In joining the consortium, MyMiniFactory signals their awareness that in order to grow the 3D design and print communities — and the consumer 3D printing industry as a whole — one file format needs to remain adaptable and support new and relevant designs, workflows, and technologies as they emerge.

Designers can now share their 3MF files to MyMiniFactory in addition to the currently supported file formats. Users will be able to download and 3D print 3MF files for free.
