BigTreeTech has released the Knomi, an open-source, “mini round screen” for Klipper-based 3D printers that displays facial expressions based on printer statuses.

Those facial expressions – a winking face, for instance, when your printer is ready to print – come by way of Knomi UI, which also provides information related to bed and nozzle temperature, printer leveling, and print progress on a 1.28-inch screen that features a 178-degree viewing angle and a resolution of 240 RGB x 240 DOTS.

By using BigTreeTech’s supplied STLs, users can print parts that allow them to mount the Knomi on a Voron StealthBurner toolhead. The mount retains the toolhead’s original fan position and incorporates additional top vents “for enhanced compatibility and optimized heat dissipation.”

An input voltage of five to 24 V, meanwhile, allows for a wider choice in power sources, with built-in ESP32 enabling Wi-Fi communication. And, of course, because it is open source, the Knomi opens the door for a wide range of UI customization that, as BigTreeTech says, put the “‘fun’ in functional.”

You can preorder the Knomi on BigTreeTech’s website, where it is scheduled for a June 5 release. While there are currently few reviews covering the device’s real-world performance, its $24.68 price tag means the risk-reward ratio is relatively high — especially given the personalization and functionality it could add to your setup.
