In an unsubtle reference to Lego’s recent takedown notices to maker hubs like Cults and MyMiniFactory, MyMiniFactory has launched the “OGEL” competition (see what they did there?) to redesign the brick.

“Imagine a world where there is no one to restrict your creativity, to tell you how to build or what to build with,” orders the design brief for the competition, in what can only be assumed is a reference to Lego restricting makers from uploading models related to its brand.

“For this competition, create a model beyond a brick, something no one but you will have the ownership for,” it continues. “Something that you welcome to be shared freely and with the world, for the simple fact that everyone should have the right to build and create.”

In short, makers are called upon to make their best unique interlocking models or connective pieces, which can be freely shared and downloaded. For their efforts, MyMiniFactory will reward the first prize winner an Elegoo Mars 3D printer (or as it’s written on the design brief, “eLEGOo Mars” — witty).

The model with the most unique downloads will win and the deadline to upload a design is November 4.
